Pilates as a tool for mental and physical health

Body and mind: a single unit that needs to move in harmony

If you're reading this article, you probably already know that Pilates is much more than just an exercise method. You've discovered it's a powerful ally for cultivating your emotional well-being and strengthening your physical resilience. And if you already practice it, you've surely felt its effects. Today we're telling you Why Combine fluid, conscious movements with controlled breathing Generate a positive impact on your body and mind.

What happens in my mind when I practice Pilates?

One of the most valuable things about Pilates is that It forces you to be present. You can't think of a thousand things while exercising: you have to pay attention to your body, your breathing, every small movement. And in these times, an activity that demands this level of attention is something very precious.

That focus on the moment, little by little, as the class progresses, calms the mind. You notice how it empties of noise, and that translates into very concrete benefits for you:

  • More concentration
Because you are training your mind to learn to be here and now.
  • Less anxiety
Deep breathing activates the parasympathetic nervous system, which is exactly what we need to get out of “constant alert” mode.
  • Real relaxation
When physical tensions are released, many emotional tensions are released as well. And when that happens, the body thanks you for it... and so does the mind.

And the body... does it transform too?

Of course. As we discussed in our previous article on Contrology and the original vision of Pilates, this method doesn't just stay on the surface: go to the center, to what's essential.

  • Your posture is improving., and with it disappear discomforts you had grown accustomed to (and should never normalize).
  • Your energy center is activated, and that gives you stability not only physically, but also emotionally.
  • You move better, with more awareness, less effort, and more connection with your body. And yes, this feeling... is incredible.

And as an extra: all of this also impacts your digestion, respiration, energy...That is, in how you live your day-to-day life. It seems like magic, doesn't it?

Pilates with equipment

Are you surprised Pilates works so well? Well, there's a reason for it, and we'll explain:

This balance is achieved because it is designed to work everything at once:

  1. You take a deep breath, and your system regulates itself.
  2. You move with intention, and stop acting out of inertia.
  3. You are in a tranquil environment, and that becomes internalized too.

As you can see, it's a simple but very powerful practice. Each session gives you back a little of that which, in this fast-paced world, we sometimes lose: Connection, calm, and strength.

Did you like what you read? Well, this is how we live it in Elite Pilates Santander.

We don't do versions here. we work the original method, with the apparatus designed by Joseph Pilates, and we adapt each class to the person in front of us.

Because Pilates is not a choreography or a fad.

It's a way to hear yourself. To give yourself what you need. To return to yourself.
